Cafe Connection Program
The LanCATster Cat Cafe is looking for cats! If you are involved in a local cat rescue and would like to send your fosters to the Cafe, please read on. It's long, but necessary!
What It IS
An outreach program for established rescues to help supply eligible cats to the LanCATster Cat Cafe.
What It’s NOT
A rescue, a funding program, a place for surrenders (reach out to rescues directly for that), or a non-profit entity. All original rescues maintain financial and legal ownership and responsibility of cats.
Goal
Secure a constant supply of adoptable cats for the Cat Cafe, as well as a way for local rescues to get visibility for their older cats. Rather than matching the Cafe with additional individual rescue partners, this program will match suitable cats with the Cafe. These Rescues of Origin (hereafter RO) are not considered Partner Rescues but ad hoc, one time collaborators every time they submit a cat.
What Cats Are Eligible?
All cats must check the following boxes:
-
Good with other cats and humans. This is a cat cafe, after all!
-
Fully vaccinated against FVRCP and rabies
-
Tested for FIV/FeLV (depending on temperament, FIV+ cats may be accepted)
-
Fully treated for internal and external parasites
-
Spayed/neutered
-
Completed a minimum 2 week quarantine process to assess for communicable conditions
-
Healthy - while medical concerns are not automatically a dealbreaker, there are only certain conditions manageable within the Cafe
-
Microchips not required, but preferred
Cats will be placed on a waiting list of vetted cats for prompt transfer to the Cafe when ready. Placement on the list is not a guarantee that the cat will end up in the Cafe, and the RO should be prepared to transport the cat to the Cafe if selected. Any cat coming to the Cafe should be ready for adoption without any pending medical needs. Please don’t submit cats that will be ready ”soon.”
What Rescues Are Eligible?
Rescues must be 501c3, in the process of becoming a 501c3, or affiliated with an established animal care provider. Once you have submitted your paperwork, you won't have to for subsequent submissions. Rescues must also have reliable communication and vet care teams, either in house or offsite, that we can reach out to if needed.
Not sure if you qualify? Ask!
Adoption Process
All cats taken in under this program will remain within the RO’s adoption process. When an application is received and approved, the Cafe must be made aware in order to facilitate the actual adoption. Adoptions will take place at the Cafe during days it's closed (M-T in summer and M-W in winter) as coordinated with Cafe staff.
Financial Ownership
Upon taking the cat into the Cafe, daily care such as food, toys, treats, and litter are handled by current Partner Rescues and the Cafe itself. If the animal requires emergency care or medical treatment while in the Cafe, the RO is responsible for this care, and the Cafe/Partner Rescues will help as need dictates and funds are available. In short, the RO maintains financial ownership, but Partner Rescues and the Cafe are here to help.
Medical Care
If a cat requires medication (either chronic or temporary), the RO is required to provide it or subsidize its acquisition. If a cat under this agreement falls ill and requires temporary foster placement during treatment, the RO will take the cat back under its care until it is ready to return. Depending on the length of a cat’s medical leave, they may or may not be able to return immediately to the Cafe.
If the Cafe experiences an emergency with a cat, all reasonable efforts will be made to contact the RO before pursuing care. If the Cafe determines that immediate care is required, however, they are permitted to seek medical care without RO permission in order to save the cat’s life. This could be as minimal as reaching out to our own veterinary networks or as drastic as a trip to PETS.
Termination of Agreement
In the event a cat must be returned to the RO (generally as a result of bullying, severe stress, or other welfare concerns for the cat or other cats in the Cafe) the RO agrees to take the cat back into their care. Unless otherwise indicated, the RO is welcome to submit other cats for consideration.
